I am not sure there is a magic list. Here is a really good article talking about how to break in properly.

Hey man, I have this same kit and my cam rounded off during break in and ruined my engine. I would use Edelbrocks lube, and break it in on 15W-40 Rotella Deisel oil. It is supposed to have extra additives that help break in the cam. Do not let it idle for there first 30 minutes. Keep it revved up to at least 2000 rpm for those first criticle moments. I got a bad cam I believe because I did this too, but then again, I used Pennzoil Instead or rotella. Hope this helps.

You only did it for a few moments ? You should be at 2k for longer than that. that may have soemthing to do with what happen.

1500 or better for 15 minutes or longer, use rotella 15w40, prime oil pump (with distributor out, using a priming tool which is free rental from autozone) before starting

heh our break in consisted of the rotella t, prime, numerous starts and revs etc.. and hauling *** down the road. my dad still thinks this is the 1960's but all seems well so..

make sure you take all rags out of the engine and account for all tools before starting

uhh,..ok,..i just ordered a case of that brad penn break in oil...did some reading and had great reviews,..now has far as priming the engine,..remove spark plugs and turn by hand a couple times?

and there is no tach in the car,...is this something i can do by feel/ear....start it up and set idle high on carb? and let it run for 15 min?

IMO, as far as break in goes, once a flat tappet cam is broken in, drive it like your going todrive it. If you are going to eventually drive the hell out of an engine, might as well get started early!

Just dont get it hot and change the oil.
