yeah it was late 67 though Ford will say it was officially 68. Same as there is no such thing as a 64 1/2 mustang.

The 289 was introduced in 63 and was found in the 64 1/2, 65, 66, 67 and 68 mustangs.

Actually, according to a foord factory parts book from the late 60s, the very first 289s with the 5 bolt bellhousing were 260s. They got the 289 approved in 63 but were delayed in being built for some reason. According to the book, all 289s actually had the 6 bolt bellhousing. Anyone else ever heard of this?

The 302 was phased in for the '68 model year (which began in late 1967). No '67 car got a 302. However, the 289 was still available in 68 in the 2V version.
