rims and wheels for a 1966
What size wheels and rims should I put on my 1966 coup 6 cyl. mustang? It sits low on the back, and everything is original, which means the suspenion is probably worn (125,000) miles. Would air shocks be the best application to, at least, raise and level the car, so that maybe 15X7 custom offset rims would work? Everything is stock, and I don't want to modify the car too much, but I do want to change the overall appearance of the car, but maintain it's originallity, and not modify it too much..Only suggestions please, no guilt trips.
Thanks.
Thanks.

okay..you have my attention. Is there something wrong with having an adjustable shock where the car is slightly lifted in the rear, and maybe the the front, to adjust the overall appearance of the car without major modifications to the car? And by the way, would 15X7 rims fit the front AND the back? Like I wrote before...please, no moral interpretations, just honest opinions....Thanks.

If the suspension is worn out spend $300-400 and put new parts in, don't spend $100 on air shocks that will attempt to support the weight of the car on a 1 inch washer pushed against the thin sheet metal of the floor.
I don't see many 15x7 rims in 4 lug for your 6 banger...but as long as they have 3.75 min to 4.25 max backspacing they will fit just fine (assuming you find the bolt pattern you need)

Don't do air shocks. The mounting points in the body were not meant to, and are incapable of carrying the weight of the car, which is what air shocks make it do. If stance is an issue, replacement springs are pretty cheap and can do a world of good.
I think you'll find wheels hard to find for a 4 lug that needs 'old skool' backspacing. While you may find them at a price palatable to you, I think if you shop around you'll find that you can convert to 5 lug, with some freshening of the front suspension, and get wheels for not too much more.
Lastly, this is a web forum, your likely to get "guilt trips" and "moral interpretations" (whatever that means) regardless of what you do. Go with the flow, man, we offer opinions, you make the choices.

by the way: shocks have no influence on the ride height
only the springs and tyres
no matter what shocks you put in, the only difference you'll feel is how often and how deep the spring is able to reverb when pushed.
the only thing a shock does is to absorb the shock (as the name says). If you had none, the ride height would be the same, but if you push the back of the car down and let go, the car would swing for a full minute ....
with good (new) shocks this swinging should be completely eliminated
with hard shocks you'd have to push harder to actually put the car down.
So if you want to correct the height of your ride, the shocks will have no influence at all.
it only influences the swinging character of the springs. nothing else.
