Yet another dumb question

Default Yet another dumb question

I am getting ready to install my new 347 back into y 65 fastback. It has been a long time since I have done this and I do not remember if it is easier to drop the motor and transmission (C-4) in with the headers on the motor or install the headers after the motor is in. The headers are tri-y type.

I plan on dropping the motor and trans first, then the headers.

Have the front of the car up high and stable. takes a steep angel to get the 2 in there @ the same time.

I agree. But then again I'm not all that brave. If you tried it in one shot what's the worst that could happen? You'd have to take the headers off? Ooooh. Scary.

On the other hand, it is a big pain installing the headers with the engine bolted to the engine mounts. I ended up taking it loose and slightly raising the engine to get to the header bolts. I say try it with them on first. If everything is out of the way and they clear, it will MUCH easier.

I just dropped my motor in my 65 2 weeks ago... I elected to leave the headers off... I feltI could use the extra room, being it was just my son andI doing the work.... (do you need a tach/oil press gauges for your clone?)

I'd put in the engine and tranny combo, with the headers laying loosly in the engine bay. Before connecting up the motor mounts, attach the headers with the engine still supported by the hoist. Then put in the tranny crossmember and connect up the motor mounts.
