66 Front fender installation help
I removed my passengers side fender to repair a water leak at a seam.
When I removed the fender all went well until I got to the bolt that you access in the door jamb. It kept spinning, so I had to remove the rear splash shield & reach up in there & hold the nut with a wrench while my helper unscrewed the bolt. I know there should be something else there besides a regular washer & nut.
In the fender it is just a small square hole. The snap in captured nut things that are used on the top edge of the fender apron won't fit because they are too big to go in that hole.
What should go there in the fender hole? I can't seem to find anything in the catalogs, except one possibility: Virginia Mustang has a "Bottom of fender to cowl nut" that looks like a square captured nut deal (#PE-220 in their catalog). It look slike it is what I need but it's not located at the bottom of the fender?

RE: 66 Front fender installation help
I had this happen as well.
I just cut the bolt in half with a hack saw.
Noting was ever welded! To prevent the nut from turning there was a spring steel tab that would hold the bolt and prevent it from falling out. The bolt has a square piece by the head. that square piece would fit inside a square hole in the bracket attached to the fender.
Due to age the nut requires more torque to remove than the square hole in the bracket can support so it rounds it out and the bolt begins to spin with the nut
TO fix: Find new bolt at store and tack weld it to the bracket so it cant turn.

No.. not on mine
I was talking about the nut that you access from behind the plastic kick panels.
I think we were talking about two different things after reading closer you were after the one which is up high that you access by opening the door...If so that one is indeed welded and yes that looks like the right nut for it.
I had thought you were talking about the one behind the kick panel it had a normal nut that has a large washer built onto it. That was the one that gave me problems as its mount is very weak. Im surprised the one inside the door gave you any issues.

Yeah I had problems with the one inside the door jam.I guess the PO had the problem & he just used a nut & a big washer instead of welding the nut in place.
Guess I'll order that nut & tack it in place. I need to order the splash shields anyway so I'll just get both.
Some good news is I didn't find any rust anywhere in the wheel well so I am happy. I cleaned it all up & gave everything a coat of POR15 & it looks prety good now.
Thanks for the help.
