lately i have been having bad luck with my car. today i went to auto zone and got new plug wires replaced the one that goes from the distrubtor cap to the coil and wal la no backfire no smoke no dying no nother but puring like a pony lets hope she stays like this

Get a multimeter, in the future you can check the resistance of the plug wires and see what the rated resistance range is suposed to be for the wire. It's a great way to track down problems like that.

Next time you run into a problem make sure you have gas in the tank.
