Default Welding and Torque Boxes

I have 2 torque boxes that need to be replaced, and two rust holes in the chasis that are each about the size of a silver dollar and need to be repaired. I'm being given an estimate of $2000 for this work.Sound right? Is welding usually that expensive?

That sounds extremely high. Are you referring to the front or rear torque boxes? I modified and installed front torque boxes on my 65 fastback. It was fairly simple. It took me less than a day. IF it had torque boxes in place, it may have added 4 hours to the job...

That is really high. That work could probably be done in a day. Even though I kinda know what I'm doing, it would probably take me 3.[&:] Your talking about $100-$150 in materials and $1850 in labor? If it took them 2 days, that's over $100 per hour.

I was quoted $1200 (with parts)and that was for replacing the entire torque box (firewall side too) for both sides. But they told me it would take 4 weeks...

Didn't know there were torque boxes in the rear. Look like you do your own welding. How long have you been doing that?
