Default What TEMP is your car running at? How 'bout Oil Pressure?

Hey all.
Ever since I started running a higher water/coolant ratio, my car has been running cooler than ever.If I am stuck in traffic or running hard on the freeway, it will get up to 180-190, maybe 200 if its BAD traffic and a warm day... But lately, just cruising around town, it is sticking around 160-165. Should I be wanting her to run hotter?? Seems like around 180 is when she is the happiest...

On another note, about oil pressure... what do you like your car to be at? Mine has been around70+ at start up and then about 50-60 when warmed up... And what weight do you use? I got 10W-30 Mobil 1 in my 347 stroka but I think something a little heavier might be better... Any thoughts on this one would be helpful too. Thanks all!

I would say that 180 is where it will stay happy. Sounds like you have a 165 deg thermostat in. If the cooling system is marginal, I would look to improve it with maybe a shroud or larger radiator or fan. Sounds like the oil pressure is about right.

180 is too cold for these engines. Running the engine that cold is creating a lot of quench in the combustion chamber increasing the amount of carbon buildup. The factory t-stat was a 192/195 for a reason. 190-210 is good operating temp.

Right now my coolant is at about 28 degrees Fahrenheit and oil pressure is at 0.
Sorry can you tell I'm from the Midwest and jealous of you guys that can drive all year.
Seriously on a summer day it runs about 190 with 40-60 PSI.

Thanks, Evil... I always admire your machines and I appreciate your thoughts. I think the coolant system is pretty decent... It really only gets anywhere near 200 in especially bad traffic, like stop and go for a half hour on an 80 degree day... I may add a fan shroud this summer if it is running hot much.

And thank you as well, Tad... So do guys think I should be swapping in a 180F T-Stat soon? I am afraid to higher than that because I would rather be a little cool than too hot...

I know the feeling... I used to live in Eastern Washington State and we had miserable winters. I didn't buy my Mustang til after I lived in CA for almost 10 years when it dawned on me that even if I cant afford a damned house here, I can afford to have a classic Mustang around, just for fun!
So you got the rough weather but you can afford a house and great QoL without too much trouble.
We got great weather but not me or a single one of my friends owns their own home, space is at a premium (no such thing as free parking), crime, politics.... no place is perfect.

And when Spring/Summer finally rolls around, you will appreciate it more than I do!
But we all live where we do for one reason or another, ya know?

I am just stoked for the extra hour of sunlight we get every night starting this weekend!!!

if you have 165 thermostat it should be replaced for a 180. A 180 thermostat is the way to go with these cars.

Im running 85 psi when cold and 70 psi when warm on 10-40w oil.

During the summer my temperature needle settles right on top of the E in TEMP on my gauge, and the oil pressure starts about halfway then drops down to about 1/4-1/3 of the gauge after it warms up (The only numbers anywhere on my gauge cluster are only on the speedo). No cooling problems on mine at all, if I leave it idling while at sonic or something during the day it will creep up a bit in temp, but not far, and cools right back down as soon as I start driving. Not bad for the original stock setup I think.

The highest summer temp was 205*, typically runs around 190* give or take a couple of degrees one way or the other. Warmidle oil pressure is about 50 lbs...
