C4 won't go into reverse
While doing my rebuild last year I had my C4 tranny out and took it to a local 'Stang performance shop to have it gone thru. I put a stall converter on it and it worked fine for a few drives (it has been too snowy this winter to get it out much) but now it does not engage into reverse. It works fine for drive, although it is shifting a bit hard - I thought that could be the stall converter. When I put it into the R(everse) position it just sits there. I do hear a bit of a noise as if it is trying to shift into reverse. I would take it to the 'Stang place but it went out of business... and I'm wondering if I have an idea why <grin>. Seriously, anybody fluent in C4 automatics? I will say that the dipstick is old and I am wondering if I put too much fluid in the transmission... the dipstick top, which would directly affect the level marks, moves up and down on the stick, hopefully that makes sense. Can I purchase another dipstick? Would filling it too much make it not shift into reverse? I've had a C4 not shift at all because of not enough fluid...
Anyway, before I blindly take my baby into a shop I'd like to see if I can get any ideas to try first.
Thanks!

RE: C4 won't go into reverse
Do you mean vacuum modulator? Which valve body? I just bought the Haynes Techbook for Ford transmissions, I don't see regulator valve or valve body...
Thanks for your help!

RE: C4 won't go into reverse
BTW, it does go into low gear, and shifts fairly easily. There seems to be a point where it should shift but seems to wait, that could just be the stall converter as opposed to a normal torque converter.
