Default 66 Mustang Gas Tank

Does anyone make a gas tank for a 66 Mustang that is not steel? I found a stainless tank for $719 from Jegs. Are there any other options?

This is a stainless steel tank. Drop in replacement with correct 16 gallon capacity & drain plug for $299.95. I have not purchased one, but I am thinking about it, maybe a 20 gallon from a 1969.

Good Luck.

You know..... stainless is steel.

What - exactly - are you looking for in a tank?

Yeah, don't understand why you're not wanting a steel tank. The only reason you should need anything else is if you're switching to a fuel cell.

Default Stainless Steel

The stock steel fuel tanks do rust (inside and out). The original finish is natural steel with a coating (galvanized?) to prevent rust. I am assuming that with several years and many cleanings this protection can deminish.

Over years many gas tanks are painted, undercoated, or unmaintained. A fuel tank also gets a lot of road stuff and exhaust junk build up.

The tanks are a visible part of the car. I was consider a stainless steel OEM style tank for maintenance purposes. I prefer the original look with no possiblity of rust and low maintaince. Therefore, a stainless steel tank would be an option-IMO.
