RE: Got the 347 Kit!!! HP estimate???
who cares which heads. who cares how much hp...its gunna make enough torque to smoke tyres, twist axles and generally make an unholymess of the rest of your driveline in pretty short order[8D]
Actually I'm withcmanf on the AFR's. THe exhaust bolt holesshould be helicoiled for the $ you spend. That said, the 225's on my 408 should give me enough flow

i'm not hinting towards a brand at all. if you like edelbrock thats fine but the vic jr's would have been my choice if staying brand loyal. i like canfield and tea heads myself

What is wrong with Edelbrock heads...... ??

why did you get edelbrock heads?
why did you get edelbrock heads?
Frankly I don't care what heads anyonechooses to use,,,,
However, Idid want to touch on the"why did you get Edelbrock heads?" question that was asked.
I can not say what the actual intent of the question was, and I don't think it was bad,but the perceived implication of the questionmight be; "Youmight be a dumbass for buying Edelbrock heads instead of AFRs."
I wanted to mention this issue, and to also say that a good purchase on cylinder heads might be possible even if they are not AFRs........in fact, the purchase the OP made may in fact be the perfect purchase for what he is trying to do with his car.
Might be possible right?

Yeah, I mean, I bought these heads because I got a really good deal by buying a total power package. It saved lots of money over piecing things together myself and buying them individually. I do not intend this to be an all out drag car and it will be driven on the street on a regular basis. However, that being said, it will see the strip on occasion. I just want something that will make at least 400 HP at the crank, and have something that is quick and fun to drive. I dont want to be tearing things up all of the time b/c of too much power, and I also want to be able to drive more than 50 miles without having to fill 'er up again. I personally feel like the combination that I have will work quite well for me and my expectations.

Well, Im not 100% sure but I assume that it was more than likey the oil and maybe it didn't get broken in long enough. I am sure however, that the cam failed first and the shavings from it caused the oil pump to go out, and also ate up the bearings. It was all just a chain reaction. Like you said though, considering that I am going from a bone stock 302 to a well built 347, the improvement should put an ear to ear smile on my face!
