Default holes in firewall for after market guages

Thinking of drilling my holes 5/8 or should I not? What can you use to cover the holes, i.e. Rubber boot and make your hole in the boot?I was going to add my mechanicaltemp and oil guages.
Thanks

My mechanical gauges came with firewall grommets. I only used the one for the mechanical temp, though. I ran the oil pressure line through another existing hole (NOT the accelerator linkage hole, heh)

Last time i did this, the hole size had to be big enough for the water temp sender unit bulb and nut to pass thru the firewall. You can get gromets at a good hardware store ( ACE, etc...)
