3 point seatbelts

RE: 3 point seatbelts
There is no way you could have 3 pts without modifications. There needs to be a solid mounting point for the 3rd point, so something has to be connected to the car. Judging by your other posts, you have a 66, and ill just assume its a coupe, which is what I have. I got the 3 point belts out of almost any of the vendor mags. It works like this: two points in the stock holes, and one that goes into the interior quarter panel, and then the belt goes down the rolling box on the floorwell. They are fairly easy to install, but require holes in the floorboards (one hole in each side about 1/2") and 2 in the interior quarter panel (on each side: one 1/2" inch hole for the mounting bolt and two smaller rivet holes).

Thanks for the reply and the pics, that doesn't look too hard at all. Just have to drill a hole in the interior quarter panels and floorwell. I have my car all apart right now so I figure it's a good time to do it, or at least when I get the floorwells back in to drill into . Thanks again. You have a nice ride there, and yes mine is a 66 coupe.

thanks! its a pretty easy install (as far as i know... a shop did the work first, but i had to re-do everything but the measuring/drilling over cuz they screwed up). Just so its clear, the hole through the interior quarter also goes through the door jamb part (if that makes sense... you can see it in the pic). either way tho, it is worth the holes in the car.

Some mods are required but nothing major. I just received the "3 Point Retractable Seat Belts with Long Sash Guide" from Wesco (about 1/2 way down the page). Mounting to the ceiling something like what you can see at JamesW's website. Prefer the belt over and above my shoulder rather then below and having possibly spinal compression in an accident... just my personal choice.

I considered the roof mount for mine too. I decided against it because I was told it would damage the paint, so it would only really work if you were planning on doing body work too. Also, it would get in the way and be easier to see. If I still had the low back seats, the seatbelts I have would not be a problem, they just brush the highback a little so I have to be sure it is over my shoulder when I put it on.

I can see where it might damage the paint if you welded it up much however you don't have to weld the plate in.. just use bolts to secure it if your installing in a completed car. Plate can be purchased from Wesco as well in there hardware section. Our car is down to the shell anyways so I'll be able to place a small weld but I plan on using the bolts as well. Below is a pic of the plate for the OP..
