Default carb = pos - reccomend damnit

alright guys since most of you know my setup and i'm having a ***** time trying to tune this garbage *** carburetor, what would be a good reccomendation for this thing? i've tried everything on this holley and nothing is working. still wont drop vac to suck the secondaries open, or anything so...

someone told me to get an edelbrock 500 but.. 500 a little small for racing?

just for those who don't know..

289 .30 over
gt40p's
xe268h - 509/512 lift 224/230 duration @ .50
tri y's
performer rpm intake manifold
2800-3000 stall
3.73 rear

and a sucky 4160 Holley 600 CFM vac secondaries electric choke single inlet piece of ****. [:'(]

Get like a Demon 525 or 575, that's all you need(a little more actually) for that setup. I'm running a 570cfm on mine, break-neck throttle response.

i personally have the 670 street avenger on my m-code cleveland and it works extremely well from low end where clevelands notoriously suck to high end with no bog at all. no adjustments wer made other than a double check of the floats and idle circuit. it may be a touch too large for your app. 570 depending on max rpm should work well. if your gonna spin over 6 grand step up. good luck.

Funny, I've always had great results and easy tuning with the 600 cfm vac secondary Holley. Are you dealing with a new one or does it perhaps need to be rebuilt? Have you eliminated the possibility of other issues such as vacuum leaks, timing, spark plugs, coil, etc.? FWIW, I didn't have very good results with a Street Avenger 670 on a 302 that was built a bit hotter than the specs in your first post.

Good luck!

What test are you doing to confirm if your secondaires open or not?
