what carb is everyone running?
im running an edelbrock 750 on my 289. some people are telling me ..woah thats not gona work..its too big for that little engine..yadda yadda yadda.. i had a holley 670 that was kinda beat and my friend said i can go bigger so i did and the engine loves it. no sputtering durning revs at all, idles perfectly, and screams when i punch it. im basically asking those of you with highly modified 289's like mine. do you think i went too big? the carb selector on edelbrocks site said worked 289's will take up to a 1000 cfm carb.

I'm running 570cfm on my 302. 750cfm is way too big for a 289, unless it's turning 8,000rpm or more. I can garuntee you that you're losing power and throttle response despite the fact it runs better than the 670 you had.

Edelbrock 600 electric choke. 750 IS too much for a 289 and your losing power along the way depending on what your setup is. So the question is.. What have you done to your engine? Even if you added the Performer upgrade kit and stroked it to 347 the 600 / 650 would be fine.

every carb calculator that you will ever plug numbers into says that a stock 289 running 5500 rpms needs a 390cfm carb at 80% effeciency.
something like a 450-460ish at 100% efficiency.
wasnt the autolites a 460 something?

RE: what carb is everyone running?
I'm running an Edelbrock 600 on my rather aggressive 331 and it's perfect. Even on a wild 289, 600 should be plenty for a street car. You should notice a drastic increase in throttle response and low-end power with a 500-600cfm carb. The only reason I'd use anything more than that would befor a very high winding (8k) race motor.
