Since you could virtually build your own car back then, meaning you could order a myriad of add-ons the curb weight varies on all of them. It could be anywhere from 2904 to 2950 or so pounds.

Alum Intake (edelbrock 4 BBL, like $160 at most), Alum water pump, Alum Heads, Convert from heavy generator/alt to newer, lighter one, remove heater (no AC, why need heater?), alum radiator, there's also a fiberglass front clip available for like $500 but I think it may be for racing only. Also, fiberglass bumpers, gut the rear windows and lock them in place so they don't roll down, battery in the trunk.

I'd start with the motor mods as they'll help you significantly more than weight reduction (as stated before)

Fiberglass parts:

Everything else should be pretty easy to find.

Take off the doors, hood, trunk lid and fenders, then it will look like mine here when I was doing the body work. That should get rid of a few extra pounds.

So, I'm guessing (due to this line of questioning) that "onemean66stang" isn't exactly very mean just yet (?) [:@]

I have always wondered why weight on drag cars is a problem. I have seen guys actually taking plugs out of their frames to make them lighter. Think about it. We send rockets and other things up into space that weigh a zillion tons. It just takes horsepower to get them up there. So, the answer is to increase the HP, not take away the weight.
