JBA Exhaust or HIPO or Hedman

RE: JBA Exhaust or HIPO or Hedman
If you can't afford the ceramics now, save until you can. Even the stainless headers will develop a nice rusty finish, and if you're going to spend the money on JBA's, spend it on some that will last.
They should fit just fine on an a/t car. As far as the choke tube goes, you can wrap it around a header tube to try to retain the factory choke (it'll function, but not as well), or you can install an electric or manual choke conversion.

RE: JBA Exhaust or HIPO or Hedman
Hi all,
I am also looking to purchase headers for my 65 coupe. I am planning to put a Smeading 347 in later this year. My question is, do I need to purchase a header for a 302 engine or for a 351 engine? Is the header fitment on a 347 engine different than a 302?
P.S. - I just installed a Steeroids Rack & Pinion...the manufacturers webpage seems to recommend a Headman 88300. I am thinking of going with the Headman 88306 (the ceramic version).
Thanks!!!

If the ceramic are a better way to go the hedman's ceramic are the same price as the stainless steel JBA's. Is the price worth it? I am more concerned about the fit and sealing than the ceramic coating.

I fought with the Mac Long tubes and complete exhaust on my 64 1/2 for over a year. I finally took the Mustang to Bud's Muffler in Denver to have them see what they could do to make things work better. I thought the headers were hitting only the driver's shock tower, but they were also up against my C4 , and several other contact points. Bud's suggested shortys, and told me to shop and order some in and they'd build me a new system around them. That night, I called Summit Racing, and looked at their website while discussing header fit. I chose the Hedman #88406 Coated Shortys. I am so pleased with the fit and even the sound of my car now! I might have lost a little top end, but the car still accelerates like crazy!

Headers are without a doubt the sexy way to go, as evidenced by all of the above responses; however, since you are running an A/T, the HiPo exhausts are cheaper, easier to install, should be installed without gaskets, WON'T LEAK, and won't lose you any noticeable performance. In addition, they won't burn out. I have paid my dues with headers over the years and try to avoid them whenever possible.
Best,
Al

I have the JBA 1650SJS coated headers on the Mustangs 302, but it has aluminum heads and is a bit of a hot rod. For a stock or near stock engine, I'd go with HiPo manifolds. I just don't see any point to headers on stock engines.
