Need Help on 1970 Mustang Speaker Selection
Hey Guys,
I am looking to update my stereo in my 70 Mach 1. I got a new head unit from custom auto sound 4x50 watts. I know that my speakers in the door are 4x6's and I am going to put in 2 5.25s for the dash. What brand have you guys used to do the switch? Any problems fitting the speakers? I have an appt to get them done professionally and the install guy suggested Rockford Fosgates. I have seend very little in the review dept on these speakers:
Rockford Punch series
4x6- p1462c and 5.25- p152c.
He's also trying to charge me more than retail for the speakers. Has anyone done the swamp and what are your suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave

I actually built custom kick panels for 6.5 inch components in my 65.
Rocford fosgate coax's will be ok, but your best bet of HU power is something like the pioneer rev series. Also, your HU putts out at most 12 watts per channel and that is with a ton of distortion. Peak wattage, the 50 watts, means nothing.
This is the series of woofers I would look at. I would also try your hardest to get 6.5's instead of 4x6's in the doors. You will get better sound and more bass.

For the price they are trying to charge you, you could acutally buy a really nice setup and isntall yourself. If you are interested in having your money go much farther let me or any of the other guys in the audio section know and we can help guide you through any help you need.

Infinity Plate speakers for your Doors, forget the dash speakers, and route the rear package tray 6x9s, also infinity. Then if you want something REALLY, pick up a infinity basslink unit and mount it in your trunk against your back seat just like this:
Your new head unit should have preouts for subs. Doesnt have to be anything extreme (the basslink is far from extreme) but it looks good, adds some nice sound quality, without shattering anyone elses glass.

I don't think I can fit 6.5 in speakers in the doors. I don't think the speaker cover could go over it. Anyone else try that and still make it look stock? He was looking to charge me 119 per pair for the rockfords when retail on rockford's site is 89.99 and 99.99. I can get them online for 50 per pair. I want to keep the car looking stock since it's in excellant condition so, I didn't want to do any cut outs in the rear or have different speakers in the door. Do you think if I added an amp with the side speakers and the dash I would get the sound I am looking for? How big can I get in the doors while still keeping behind the grill?
Waffles- that's a great pic in your sig!
