I have a 1966 Mustang (Convertible/Straight-6/200 CID/Autolite 1100 Carburetor/C-4 Automatic Transmission). I have replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, points/condenser/rotor, and set the points gap. My next step is to set the ignition timing. I would like to know what the correct timing is. I've looked online and have seen 6 degrees, but I've also seen 12 degrees. The current timing appears to be set at 8 degrees. Also, what is the best method to set the timing? I've heard of static timing and dynamic timing. Thank you.[/align]

To set the timing on an old or modified engine is with a vacuum gauge. Hooke the gauge up directly to manifold vacuum. Set the timing where the vacuum is highest.

Take off the vaccum advacnce on the carb, then get a timing light. I think my 200 is set at 13. Loosen the distributor just enough to where you can move it. Then move it while looking at the timing to change. Once set properly tighten and start changing the idle and air to fuel mixture on the carb.

Static is as described above (no advance)
Dynamic is a test of the advance system - you should see the timing advance as the engine RPM increases.

More timing advance is better. Run the higher number if it doesn't knock or is hard to start when hot.
