hmmm ... i am not with my car at the moment, but i redid/repaired my horn last year.
So at least i know how they should work. Hope i can help you.
What information do you need exactly.
There is a little wire brush that goes into the steering wheel ring. it's a copper contact with a spring. Without that it will never work.
I'll see later at home if I still have pictures, but let us know exactly what you're stuck with

Where does the copper contact /spring go? into the steering wheel or below the steering wheel?

jaysus that took ka while to find.
one picture shows steering wheel without the horn assembly.
It shows a hole at around 6 o'clock. A hole in the plastic. Can't really miss it.

The copper brush was not in there as I took the picture
This is what the brush looks like:

only 64 1/2 mustangs have this hole in the steering wheel and this brush.

If you don't have the hole, someone might have changed yours with a 65 model steering wheel. take a picture and we'll know

beware though. when i repaired my non working horn all parts were fried. the horn relay (only 64's have that on the front of engine bay), the brush, the horns themselves, the contacts in the firewall were bad etc etc etc

i'd say the first thing to try is:
a) do the horns work
unplug the cable going to horn an put a cable from battery + to the horn where the cable was
if horn beeps, horn is ok otherwise horn dead or you don't have proper ground on your chassis

there's a lot of steps to check on everything and I will eventually write an article about it. But for the moment, you can check if everything but your horn contact works.
put a long enough nail or screw (just temp) into that hole. and connect this with the middle of the steering wheel. the metal nut holding the wheel in place
if it beeps then the only problem you have is horn contact or brush...

kalli,

I thank you, Ibelieve you have answered my questions. I will let you know over the weekend how it works. By the way, on the 64 1/2 were the turn signals self canceling?

Mine are not.And I would be surprised if someone told me that they were before 67.
I have a slight feeling that they are not on 67-68 models either. I once drove a friends 68 and there had to switch them off myself as well

Thanks Kalli,

I was just trying to see if the 1965 Shop Manual was correct. The manual implies that, for 65 at least, the turn signals are self cancelling. The manual saysmthat the adjustment /alignment of the turn signal unit in the steering column might be off if they don't self cancel.
