Default 65 clutch out???

Hey all just a depressing day here. I was crusing around in town in the 65 stang we just got Thur.....well the clutch goes out. The ol man noticed the clutch pedal had to be all the way out before it would engage. He adjusted it a little today. Well I was pulling outta sonic and went to get it in 2nd and it wouldn't move....I thought oh SH#% the clutch or tranny the ol man is gonna kill me. Some nice guy finally help me push it in to the next parking lot. Now it won't even start. Finally get ahold of the ol man....who just got home after putting in a 50 hr week. Well we finally got her home using a tow rope (highly illegal btw). Could it be something else...he was gonna baby it home if he could've got the clutch to engage, but nada??? He said it might be input shaft??? He did a valve gasket today and said the clutch could've got oill on it????? I just hope once we get it driving again he let's me drive it

Better get used to it.... If you drive a 40 year old car, it's gonna have problems. Clutches, brakes, steering...unless you've gone in and overhauled these things, you'll always have little things happen. It's just natural for an old car.

Tell us more about your car so we can help in figuring out the problem. Year, motor, transmission type, etc.

It's a 65 coupe with a 200 ci I-6 with a 4 spd. Motor has has a rescent over haul cause ol man didn't see any build up. He noticed that a lot of connections may be loose and there is a problem with the fuse box. Now the alternator light is on but car will start????? The tranny is tremec T-170 4 speed unless the T-5 came in a 4 spd???? Thoughts/ideas? I am just a gal learning about cars so don't be too harsh or make me feel like a idiot.

so when you press the clutch pedal down, its not releasing from the transmission? and when you say "it wouldnt move" do you mean the pedal or the shifter?
perhaps it could simply be bent clutch fingers causing it to not release all the way. or bad throwout bearing.

as for making you feel like an idiot, well, that comes later, once we get to know ya better!

jk.

t wouldn't move is when I pushed the clutch pedal all the way too the floor It would go all the way out and never engage or move. No 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or R. I got a clutch kit on the way from NPD...be here Wed. so in the mean time will be get it apart and look at it and take the fly wheel off to be machined.

Sounds like it could be improperly adjusted linkage. Does it shift with the engine off?

i have this thing going on with mine right now, where SOMTIMES, if i go to try to put in 1st or reverse (three speed here) it wont go in until i put it in another gear, line things up, and then go to the one i want. or just rock the car a little. my cltuch is on its way out aswell. double check your linkage, never hurts.

In addidtion to the cutch disc the pressure plate ans throw out bearing are bad. Trouble is I am having trouble finiding the part beacuse it is a 9 in clutch not a 8 1/2. We originally ordered a kit from NPD...and were like this isn't right. I've made so many calls the last we days to try to find one locally. We wanna be in the car show sat sooooobad. The only place I have been able to find a kit is on e bay.

he original owner of the car at a local car show. Turns out it was an original 3pd. He dropped a top loader tranny in it changed the bell housing and droped a 9 in clutch in it from a 70-71 maverick so that why we had a hard time getting parts.
