Default First runs with new motor

well, i got my first runs in tonight finally with my new motor - i think it's got more in it but theres some more tuning involved

track was horrible and i wasn't hooking up so i was cutting 2.1-2.2 60' times (probably the bfg drag radials)

anyway best of the night was a 12.86 @ 106 mph which wasn't bad, shifting @ 6k but i was also letting off a bit out of the hole when it spun.

might need to lower the rear of the car some as it sits at least 2" higher in the back than in the front also i might get some traction bars, who knows.

heh also.. getting rid of the performer rpm intake for a victor jr so if anyone needs a performer w/ barely any miles on it let me know.

just play with it, adjust and you'll be good to go before you know it.

MPH shows potential. Get the 60's down and mid 12's will be easy. Consider keeping that intake. Difference between the two is big. You MPH doesn't show ya really needing it. The RPM will be good for at least bottom 12's.

hrm.. i dunno - when i swap to 1.7rr's for this cam i might just need it... but i've always tossed the idea of the weiand xcelerator being it's a low to high rpm single plane.. dunno tho. the casting on the rpm is horrible in my opinion.

like i said can't hook up pissing me off lol damn leaf springs

Congrats It sounds like a good time to me! Yeah I am sure you can get those times down with some tuning and such.

Congrats! Lots of potential there. You built a stroker, right? What are the components? Damn, this is my 2,000th post!

well i got 3.73's in the rear and it's never bogged ever in it's life so i don't know... like i said i might just go with the xcelerator. i don't get wheel hop so.. i doubt i'd need traction bars now that i think of it but i need some way to stop spinning off the line. using 275/50/15 bfg drag radials and it burns em off, i launch, i have to get off it then back on again. loses valuable time :| i have no way of knowing which would benefit me realistically unless i slap some bags of concrete in the trunk or something.. :|

yeah i built a stroker, thank god lol that 289 was getting tired even tho it was rebuilt
specs are.

302 roller truck block, kb forged pistons (not fhr crap) comp xe276hr 1.6rr's (need 1.7's for the cam) edelbrock performer rpm heads, peformer rpm intake, holley 670 (with 70/74s, lightest spring, gonna swap main bodies with a proform) headman longtubes, pertronix ignitor 2 @ 10 base 34 total timing.

anyway like i said traction is my main issue but also with the question of the 1.7 rockers, the cam is designed to run with 1.7s to bring lift in at .544/.544 but i kept my old 1.6's since they were pretty much new. i doubt i'd gain anything from going to the 1.7s but if anyone has any info on that one let me know. lol thanks guys

Get some good 10" slicks. That should get you down in the mid 12's and with practice and the right track conditions, low 12's. Street tires suck at the track and slicks suck on the street.

I've seen those drag radials put cars on the back bumper, nothing wrong with the tires. You need to drop the tire pressure and not to over heat them on the burn out. You have good numbers to start with, work on the car suspention and your 60'..Good Luck..
