Dash Lights Question

Dash Lights Question
Continuing to move forward with the interior rehab on my 68. Floor boards done, seats recovered, vinyl dyed, new sound deadener and carpet ready to go in. While I had it all down to the bare I decided to repaint the metal on the lower dash. I'm replacing bezels anyway so I pulled it all out.
Question - the dash light bulbs all have a blue cover on them, obviously to give the dash 'blue' effect at night. Which didnt seem to work very well but I had only driven it at night a couple of times before starting the rehab. Are these blue covers stock? Should I leave them on? Whats the story on these?
Thanks
Craig

You can buy replacement covers in blue and I'm sure I've seen green covers also.
+1 to replacing the bulbs with LEDs. They are much brighter, use less power, last 10x longer and produce very little heat. 100% improvement!

I bought my LED on Ebay for like $20. The instruction told me to take the blue lens off since the LED were blue anyway and they put out more light that way.
