Default My 65 Project

This is my project, i live in the netherlands. So getting parts etc isnt as easy for me. And for modified classic mustangs its very hard to get anything.

I bought my car seven years ago as a standard poppyred 65 mustang V8.

I bought it from a mustang garage over here in the netherlands

It had the original californian plates (RYG 737)

Since then i made a lot of changes to the car, it was sprayed some time in its life. Originaly it was bronze but when i bought it, it was poppyred.

First things i did was to mount discbrakes at the front and a powerbooster for the brakes. Changed the wheels for 15 inch torq thursts and put a Pony interior in it.

Made a custom stainless dual steel exhaust for it

The car looked alot better after that and looked like this:

The cars paint was not what it should be, and there were lots of little things wich wasnt the way i wanted it to be (under the hood it looked awfull and the engine was going bad).

So i decided to rebuild the car with my dad, but not original but also not going extreme with it.

We wanted a mix between original and restomod ! Its always possible to build the car like a original again (but will need a repaint then ).

So we started to strip the car down

The car was in great shape ! Absolutly no rust and straight with no signs of an accident ever !

It just was dirty under the panels !

But under all that dirt and paint it was in great shape !

The car was completly sanded down to bare metal (no blasting !)

Car was then sprayed with epoxy, filler, primer etc !

The engine is a brand new 302 stroker with forged pistons etc, different camshaft, hedmann headers, Edelbrock inlet with edelbrock 750cfm carb on it

alot of engine work ! The C4 transmission is rebuild and has a shiftkit in it.

The color is a selfmade one, we couldnt find the right colour for it ! It became a Yellow with pearl effect !

The car was first sprayed white, then a light volkswagen yellow and on top a yellow selfmade pearlescent, then 2 bright silver stripes also with a little effect in them to match the yellow paint and topped of with 6 layers of clear coat.

Alot of work went in to the painting of the car (almost a year)

Alot of time went in to making all the parts fit beter than they were new, like the grille and parts arround the headlights.

Engine isnt finished, still waiting for my new ignition system and some small parts. Going to make the PS poulie ourselfs from alluminium.

Still building the car, it isnt finished yet ! Suspension is going to be a coilover conversion and the wheels i have for the car are Boyd codding ton magnetos

The mustang is coming along nicely. I like those silver stripes on the yellow.

Wow, beautiful work! It is amazing how clean and rust free that car was when you began the job. Good luck with it and post more pictures!

Looks fantastic. It must be a blast driving up to a bar or parade in a Mustang. I don't imagine there are very many of them on that side of the pond. Nice work!

Thank you for the reactions !

@Moonweasel: You would be surprised ! Its not a common car over here, but there is a large mustang club over here and we have mustangs from every year and type over here !

Its inspired by the crazy horse mustang yes .

But the stripes are different (boyd used straight stripes, i used the shelby as template). And the colors are different .

But i'm not the only one with this colour scheme, and also not be the last.

But i'm unique with the color yellow and silver (custom made colours).

The rims don't do anything for me though. I know Darrel has them or ones similar on his vert, but I just don't care for them.
