rims on my 65 fastback

Just because I don't have the same opinion as you do doesn't mean I'm narrow minded. I simply think they tend to look stupid on 65-66's, and still borderline on 67-68's. There's been a recent obsession with putting the biggest rims possible on every car possible, and I find it tasteless. Not only on newer factory cars, but especially so on classic muscle cars which have traditionally looked better with 14-16" rims with thick sidewall tires.
If I was stuck in the 70's, I'd have sidepipes, my rear end would be jacked up to the sky with Gabriel's, and I'd have 10" wide wheels with tires sticking 2" out of the fender.
I'm not going to tell people not to do what they want (within reason), but if you put something up on a forum, you put yourself up for review. If he wants to do it, fine. I just don't think it'll look good.

I just said they were too big because literally they were too wide. 10.5's? 9's in the front?
I like 17's on just about any car, my pet peeve is chrome. Big chrome wheels on a classic look way too 1992 Compton. The standard gun metal grey Ford Mustang GT wheels look great on a 65. Chrome? not so much.

This not a stock suspension, its terminator chassis, they had to flare the fenders.

i think 17s are perfect for a classic mustang. no matter what yeat.
hell, i think 17s are perfect for any car.
makes the car look meaner. i personally like the restomod look over an original look. thus why i like 17s. i think they "fit" these cars perfect.

Iskwezm,
How old are you? I think the reason that you hear more people knocking 17s is because most people on this forum have been driving them and seeing them with 14-15's for the past 40 years. Don't you think that might be habit forming? I bet this divide is nearly perfectly along age lines.
(Im 28, and like I said, I just hate large, super polished chrome wheels on a classic. Too "Hot Wheels" , 64 Impala with switches, Compton for me.)

I have to agree that my taste isn't for the larger wheels. I'd love to stick 15" wheels on our car unfortunately it looks like we'll have to go 16" wheels due to the suspension and brakes. Not that happy about it however it is what it is.
Long live small wheels, big sidewall, raised white letters.. and red-lines! Sweet!
