Default $2000 for a short block... which one?

Say you had $2000 for a short block 347 stroker. Which company would you go with?

I was originally going to go with DSS bullet shortblock but heard a few things about them and quality blocks. I also had someone suggest fordstrokers.com and they look great. Can you guys make me some suggestions on engine companies that make quality shortblocks and experiences you have had with them. This is my first motor build and im worried about buying a crap product since I dont know too much about reputations for companies yet.

Im looking to go with a 347 stroker shortblock and AFR 185 heads. Shooting for right around 400hp.

I would get the new Boss 302 block, only costs $1800 so you can get it bored to the 347 and it is much stronger than any other block out there.

JMD recommended TandL to me... I was looking at the 347 A-2 and its nice, but nothing forged?? Also, 430hp... is that rated at the crank?

all of T and L's engines are rated at the crank. They don't have a short block listed on the website but call and get a price he's sold them before. You can get forged as an upgrade. They are my choice but I'm bias since I work there. http://tandlengines.com/

for a N/A engine, no need for the expense of a BOSS block

yea i agree with iskwezm, unless your an FI nut like me then there is no need in a block rated for 1500hp, a sportsman block should cover 400, hell a standard 302 block will handle that and more, but if you go with a radical blown set-up or might possibly got to one then yea i would get the BOSS block

My buddy recently got a stroker form this company, Smeding Performance. Surprisingly it runs very well and Smeding offers a one-year warranty with all of its crate engines, and buyers can pay a little extra to extend that warranty up to three years or 36,000 miles.
