sounds like a plan.
i removed old intake, cleaned it all up.
checked the heads (intake sides) for straightness. alkl good.
Put in the rtv front and back as well around the water ports (only a slight bead there).
Put the gaskets back in extended some rtv from front and back over the gasket lip.
the gasket was hooked to the head gasket (both felpro). so no way that was moving.
bolted it down (was at every screw ten times slowly down) then torqued it to 20ftlbs
Took 3 times as well until all screws wouldn't turn anymore during toquing. It seems to settle a ot while doing that.

Carb and distributor back in.
White smoke out back, no water loss. drove for 5 miles. no more smoke but water loss.
I have qa thermostat in it now (160degree milodon) and I'll just keep driving and see what happens. I'm not really happy so far.

it seems the engine smokes a lot of white when cold, doesn't smoke _at all_ when warm and driving after half mile. then i switch off the engine open the water lid on top 5 mins later. i get a bit of a phhheeeeewwwww and the water level is under the ribs of radiator ...
annoying as it's driving perfectly fine. This time it even kept running without stalling form cold to warm not hitting the throttle once which it didn't do before. i always had to keep revving it a bit when I had the problem when cold ....

quite annoyed

i was home for lunch so I filled up water (1.5 quarts). started here.
nearly no smoke. Drove her back to work (5 miles) and couldn't see any.
when finished i'll check how much water she was drinking. bitch is only supposed to have petrol.
If it's getting better and it's only a 'tad' I'll think of doing something I would have never done before (and I'm ashamed if I end up doing it). pour in a bit of gunk up your radiator additive in the hope that this will creak wherever she's bleeding internally

seems like i scared that car with the threat of gunk in water. drove home from work no smoke, lots of traffi. but only 5 miles. temperature was stable no smoke. no water lost
i'm half thrilled. tomorrow I'll go for a proper drive (20miles+) with a gallon of water behind the seat and see how it goes ... that would be something if I finally cured it ... don't want to jinx it touch on wood
