Default I asked about rear main before but im not clear

So my engine was just rebuilt. It has a new felpro gasket set in it.The rear amin is leaking. Is it easy to replace. Do i need to drain the oil?

I just did an oil change with Royal Purple and i spent $60 on oil!

I don't think you should be using Royal Purple on a fresh engine. You usually make the switch after the engine is good and broken in.

Yes, you should be running non-synthetic with a high zinc content, something like Valvoline VR-1. Switch to synthetic after 8-10k miles.

But yes, you do need to drain the oil, and no, it's not fantastically easy. It's not super difficult, but you do need to drop the pan and the rear main cap.

How do you know it is the rear main? Sometimes rear main leaks on newly rebuilt engines cure themselves after a few hundred miles. I also know a couple of people who thought the rear main was leaking only to discover it was the valve cover gasket. I've also seen the flywheel bolts leak and people think that is the rear main seal (on most small block Ford engines, the flywheel bolts go through the crank flange and are exposed to engine oil and must have thread sealant applied so they don't leak).

Hmmmm fakey snakey i never really though of that. I did not put sealer on the flywheel bolts. maybe that is the issue. I willl be pulling trans in a couple weeks to replace the throwout bearing, i wish i would have put one in when i dropped the motor back in but i was only thinking about getting it back together.

Ah, that might very well be it. A little bit of blue (not red) thread locker should do the trick.
