Currie 9" Rearend

Currie 9" Rearend
Just a word of warning. I ordered the 9" for my 66 fastback from Currie and quality, shipping, and cost were great. What I didn't know is that if you order their Mustang specific rear (which I did), it comes with a 1310 yoke! For those of you that don't know, that is the small universal joint carrier and is weak behind anything over about 300 HP or so. I have a 450HP Boss motor and had to upgrade to a 1330 when I ordered my driveshaft from Denny's at additional cost. I highly recommend Currie, but make sure you are very clear about what you are getting. The upgrade to a 1330 at that point would have been much easier and cheaper.

Thanks for the info. I have a currie and I bet mine is the same 1310 yoke. I didn't even think about that, but I am not to that point yet of running. I will definitely put that on the list of things not to forget! Thanks fakes.
How can I tell what I have for sure?

Along those same lines, a 1330 is certainly MUCH better than a 1310 in a performance situation, but it is not a big deal to switch to the beefy 1350 and never worry about it again (except for wear). Also watch out for setups that have a 1310 on one side and a 1330 on the other. That is just wrong and what I just threw out when I upgraded!

Nick, with the power you are running and the regular burnouts your car seems to do when you are not looking, are you concerned?
I didn't realize I had a 1310 until I measured it. I was concerned but not worried. Then I called Denny's and they were clear that it was too weak for my application. It wasn't that they wanted the sale either. They told me I should call Currie and see about a discount which I did and got. I also blew up my impact gun trying to get the yoke retaining bolt off and had to get another one before the little bastard finally let go and came off (fortunately, Currie hasn't used crush washers for years).

Believe it or not I put the 1310s in with the intention of a driveshaft hoop so that it would be weakpoint in the drivetrain. I figured the 1310s would snap before the trans broke, or the rear, or the axles, or the aluminum driveshaft.
Instead, I've broken the hard parts in the trans twice, snapped a 28 spline axle, and broke the 3rd member at the same time the axle snapped. It doesn't get any traction on street tires and when I race it at the track, I tried stalling it up, but found I get the best results trying to flash the converter so I basically leave at idle. I'm sure the 1310s will break one of these days...but so far they haven't been the issue.
