Default MSD 6AL trouble

Bought a MSD 6AL box with a 6k rev limiter off cragistlist. Installed it today with a MSD coil and Accel distributor and car wouldn't start. Went on MSD's site and double checked wiring, wiring was good. Checked connections again and nothing looks wrong. Unhooked the box and wired everything to how it was and car started up just fine.
Anyway to test the box? Went searching online and some forums say the boxes die within months. Any other brands you guys recommend? Thanks.

Did you get directions with it? If not here they are:

What coil are you using? See the bottom of page 9 in the attached instructions for troubleshooting instructions. Do the spark test and you will know if the box is bad or not. Good luck!

I have two coils, the one I tried with the box was the MSD high vibration coil, the one I had in there before was the MSD Blaster 2 coil. Both coils work, but only tried the box with the high vibration one.

Several years ago I did the electronic conversion using the Accel module and purchased the 6AL as well. I couldn't get it to work. When I asked the MSD techs on their web site what the problem was they told me it wouldn't work. They said there box won't work with Accel. I would start there. Go to MSD.com and go to their forum and post the question. A tech will answer you within a day.

You can make the box fire to test it. With the box powered and you jumping the purple to green wire, you will hear the box chirp if it's still working.

Well, I think I've found the problem. On the MSD box, not the side where the rev limiter pill goes in, but the other side, there is a black plastic **** deal with a screw in the middle of it and two screws around it. If you take the screw out and take the plastic deal off, there are a few wires in there that should be connected, well it looks like whoever had the box before cut the wires flush. Any idea if this is repairable?
