Default Edelbrock intake and carb question

I am going to go to a 4 barrel. I am looking at the performer 289 and an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. My questions are 1. Do I need a carb spacer? I do have power drums and that line goes to the existing spacer on my 2 barrel. I have seen pictures of some with and some without?? 2. I have a C4. will I need anything for the kick down?

Thanks, Jeff

i did not use a spacer but I never had problems with fuel heating, so I didn't see necessity.
the power brake you can hook up to your new intake. It has a 3/8NPT hole just behind where the carb would go. as well the edelbrock carbs have a pickup at front of carb that you can use if you don't have a PCV (i would use a pcv).
for the kickdown i have no idea as i'm manual ;-)

the intake will come with plugs for all the holes, so you would need to buy that fitting.
the temperature sensor should be the same size (my original intake was a combination of 66 and 64 parts so i'm not sure on what you got). The thread for it is the same size or roughly the same size as the water outlet for your radiator in the intake. I hope that makes sense to you ... get a thermostat housing gasket and most importantly a good torque spanner. Never use the cork gaskets that come with the intake gasket set. Get RTV. I used black and that worked fine. no leaks there.

you don't necessary need a carb spacer but MAKE SURE you get a heat dissipating gasket otherwise you will cry in the summer when you have heat soak problems

it is very annoying and embarrassing when you are sitting in a parking lot trying to get your car to idle

go with a weiand 8124 intake instead, it has the same power band but makes more ponies across the board.

yah there was once an article in FM saying that they tried the usual combos on a stock 289 and figured that without much tuning effort the best combination seems to be edelbrock 600cfm together with the weiand 8124. better than the performer 2121 intake. When they used the holley they were running too rich which could be easily cured, but I think the article was dedicated to the bolton and go people. So frpom that it seems to be a good combo.

run your power brakes off the manifold and the pcv from the fron 3/8 port of the carb.
