Default I6 V8 Swap

I know i know another thread on the swap...

i do not want this to turn this into a sell the I6 and just buy a V8 type thread.

I just bought an old 289 off of EBAY that we are going to rebuild and swap.

just asking now what EXACTLY should i be planning to buy for the swap?
tried looking in the faq section did not find any good sites, and i tried to do a search but all the threads i read turn into pissing matches.

i upgraded to an 8' rear during the restore process
we already added the 5 lug CSRP diskbrakeswap to the front.

and are there any good online resources for the 289 rebuild?

Thanks,

THANKS!!!

since you already have the 5 lug front and rear all i would say is engine mounts, rad, wiring harness, and tranny. im sure im missing little bits and pieces but thats the main stuff that i can think of...

try summitracing.com for rebuild kits

My 65 is undergoing an I6 to V8 conversion. Most of the swap is done. I'm just waiting for my engine that is about to be built.

I have Granada front disc brakes and Versailles rear 9 inch with disc brakes so its all 5 lug now. I also upgraded the master cylindre to a dual reservior.

I had to change all of the front steering components over to V8 parts.

I also put 1 inch lowering springs in the front. You will definitely want something different in the front besides the I6 springs. If you don't want the front to be lower then get GT springs or something besides the wimpy I6 ones.

You'll also want a beefier front sway bar. I upgraded mine and added a rear one as well.

I went with a T5 5 speed transmission.

You'll need V8 motor mounts and a V8 radiator.

Also, to protect your car from frame twist etc and to just make it drive and handle better you could add subrame connectors, Shelby style export brace and monte carlo bar.

i considered this swap about a year ago, i found everything listed above, plus a tranny upgrade( c4??) prob. want a t5 in her just to really use your power, and in some cases i found that people had to cut back the shock towers just to fit the engine in, keep in mind i never did the swap this is just coming form my research. good luck

if you bought a 289 then no modification to the socktowers will be necessary. if you still have the transmission for the i6 you will have to change or upgrade it.

Only way your cutting shock towers is if you put a mod motor or big block in a 64-66.A 289 will fit fine its the factory engine the car could have came with the engine bay is the same size for that year no matter what engine is used.

i have a 1968.. i thought the c4 tranny would workfine with the 289 upgrade, just have to change the flexplate, am i mistaken?

it has power steering already does it have to be changed?
the upper and lower arms were changed during the restore.

i was planning on
radiator
motor mounts
v8 springs
headers
muffler

new shocks to go with the springs
the power steer should be ok, but you may have to do some digging for the right brackets etc to mount it to the v8.

is there an issue with the c4 bell housing and rear mount with respect to the position with a 6 or an 8? drive shaft length wont change will it?
