1965 Air Conditioner

1965 Air Conditioner
I have a 66 underdash AC in my 65. After the new 302 is in, I will be converting the AC to a Sanden compressor with R 134.
I have seen that some of the Mustang parts places sell a complete Sanden swap kit. Well, I don't need a complete kit. The crate motor is coming with a new compressor.
Here are my questions. What all needs to be changed? Is it really just the dryer and the rubber lines/hoses? After that is done do I just evacuate the system and then charge with 134? Do I need to worry about old R 12 in the coils?
Has anyone else done this?

I think the system needs to be flushed before the change over from R12 to R134. Not sure what required for the flush but I know its more then just purging the R12 and refilling.

What about the components that need to be changed? Does anyone know if it is just the dryer and the lines?
I plan on taking to a shop to have the system evacuated or flushed and recharged. I just want to make sure I do this right so I don't have to do it again due to my own ignorance.

I'd change only the dryer, the "flushing" is to remove the mineral oil. The R134 uses synthetic oil. I have changed 3 or 4 cars over to 134, the first couple of them I flushed the lines, and then i came across a web site that said you didn't really need to do that. So on the others I didn't flush any of the lines, and have not had any trouble with them.
You can google "R134 change over" and find a site that will help decide how you want to have it done. Of course any AC shop will tell you that it needs to be done so that they can guarantee there work. And of course it will come at a higher price.

I converted my from 12 to 134. I replaced only the receiver/dryer because I was stubborn. After a little the a line went so I had to replace all of the lines. From what I was told by an A/C guy, 134 runs at a higher pressure.
I took all those hoses down to my local Napa and they custom made them. Cost me less than a $100 and they worked great until my compressor blew a seal. Waiting for the summer and extra cash before I replace the compressor.

Where do I get 134A hoses from?
Has anyone else had thier hoses reworked like Dano670?
I'm not sure that would work though since it appears the Sanden compressore will have O ring fittings and not compression fittings. Also the 134 hoses are supposed to have access ports.
It looks like the hoses from CJ may not work. I don't know if they are barrier style hoses or not. However they are compression fittings on the older stuff and on the R12 components. It appears that the CJ hoses may be for R12. They also do not have the access ports on the curved ends.
Classic Auto Air says that the 134 hoses are O ring and have the access ports.

I am completing a install of a Classic Auto Air underdash unit. As I am going with Chrome parts I have an extra dryer that I was going to put on ebay. Also you can get extra hoses and parts from them. They have been very helpful.

Thats cool. I just got hoses condensor and dryer from them. I pulled the under dash 66 evaporator out of my 65 and it has a tag from Classic Auto Air. The previous ownder of the 66 parts car that we had had it rebuilt by Classic Auto Air. If I had thought about that I would have already known where to go to order custom hoses. The hoses are going to be for 134A and have the access ports.
