You know what I thought when I first saw that was, BEACH CAR! You know, cut the top off, fiberglass the hell out of the rough stuff and voila! Beach car.

Allowing for the fact that you may not live by the beach, offer the guy 3 or 4 hundred for it and part it out. It's whipped.

It is possible to replace a roof but honestly your probably don't want to go there.

By the time you spent that much time and money trying to revive this one...you could have bought a much nicer car to use as a starting point.

Why not make it a convertible? I saw Chip Foose do this to a car and it was beautiful. He didn't add a convertible top, used a toneau cover instead. I know we're not Chip Foose but if your shop teacher is willing to help removing the roof shouldn't be a problem.

I believe that would be called a roadster. It looks like a pretty decent car other than the roof. If I didn't live on the opposite side of the country I would pick it up for $700 and make a roadster out of it but there is no way I would bother trying to replace the roof and I've tackled some pretty crazy **** in my build.

Yeah the car is only good for parts swapping roofs on a unibody is really easy to mess it up good.a body shop would charge you 3 grand easy to do this. You need to be looking at 3 grand cars anything under a grand would only be good for parts.Take a truck and trailer to http://www.oldautoparts.com/ and find you a good body.Or even drive out to az they have some nice rust free cars. You see why ill never buy a vinyl top car ford and gm never painted good under them so once it has a crack it holds water and rust out like that.

Guy painting my car is converting a coupe to fastback for a guy in Irag. He has done a few. Here is a link below I found that has some good pics. There is a guy on ebay right now selling coupe to fastback shells for 9K. Depending on welding skills maybe worth tackling. There seems to be a lot info on the web about doing it.
