Default RE: Fastback trapdoor panel

I've known of a few people. I suppose they were satisfied enough. I do remember one instance of severe warping due to summer heat.

My problem is that they're just so ugly! I mean, that little raised horizontal bar (joining the two pods together) is absolutely pointless. And why are the speakers raised off the suface instead of recessed down into it? It's almost as if you're more concerned with how your trunk will look rather than the inside of your car! I actually had the chance to write the designer of this panel and asked about these very things. He said he doesn't know what he could've been thinking, and would do it differently today.

I made my own from plywood and fiberglass. The 6x9s are flush-mounted and sound great with the trunk backing them up.

Thanks for the reply!!
I tryed the same trick with the wood and mounted my amp between the speakers
it sounds good, I will have to do some cosmetic work on my panel!! it's not painted or covered yet.
I agree that they're ugly It sure seems like the plastic panel would vibrate and rattle with a lot of bass.
Thanks again!!
Dave
