Default Coolant Leaking On Passenger's floormat

I recently been smelling coolant and just now realized its dripping down onto the passenger side upper floor mat, coming from what seems to be the heater??

before i start taking stuff apart, just wanted to know what could be causing this?

the only thing ive done coolant related recently is put new heater hoses in. and havent even been using the heater(cause it doesnt work that good anyways)

Heater core or the hose connections are leaking,,,takes a couple hours to pull everything apart to check/replace

Could be that the new hoses need some thread sealant.

The hose clamp at the firewall could be leaking causing cooland to squirt into the heater box. If your heater isn't working so well, is it the blower motor or lack of flow? Maybe it is time to the the plenum apart and replace the core and clean her up. Check for ducts that may have come off or old cracked duct work.

ok, here's what im thinking. since it never gets that cold around here (gotta love cali) and realistically i dont need a heater atm, can i just take those 2 hoses on the firewall off and instead run the one from the waterpump straight to intake manny? in essence bypassing the coolant entering the heater.

If you decide to bypass the heater core, first disconnect the heater hoses from the water pump and intake manifold. Take an air hose and put it in one of the hoses and squirt air into the hose to blow out the coolant that is still in the core. Make sure the heater control is opened to the 'hottest' setting on the temp. control inside the car and make sure nothing is in the path of the heater hose where the coolant will be comming out.

Yes you can bypass the core. I believe it is referred to as the "Mustang Loop". I did it on mine.

Like Cruzzar said, blow out the remaining coolant in the core or it may drip slowly for quite some time. I did all this about 9 months ago and haven't had a problem since.

A while back Mustang Monthly had an article on replacing the core. Try searching for it on their site.

Here's a link to a very well written procedure if you decide to do it right.

Heater Core Replacement.
