Default New Guy Needs Help with a Body Question Pics Posted

Hi Guys,

I am looking to purchase my first classic mustang and I found a beautiful 1965 2+2 Fastback. This car has been highly detailed as a Shelby GT-350 replica. When I say detailed I mean painfully detailed. I would really like to purchase the car but when crawling under it I noticed something off about the floors. I snapped a couple of shots and I wanted you guys to look and give me your opinions about what was done. Did they just cut out some rust and splice in a patch panel, replace the floor???

This pic was taken inside the front driver's fender well looking head on where the firewall meets the floor.

Any help you guys can give so I don't get ripped off on this car would be greatly appreciated! The current owner has no history on the body work done to this car. Car has been appraised and was rated as #2 restoration for whatever it's worth.

It looks like there was some floor pan replacement done. Looks like a decent job. I would take a refrigerator magnet to the lower sections of the wheel wells to see if there is any bondo work done. Do you have any other pics?

A couple more pics in the same area from different angles. Not the greatest pics but the car was on the floor with tires on so I really had to crawl all over to get the pics. The rest of the floors looked really good and that was the only seams that I found so they probably put in full pans. Why do you think they seemed them in that spot rather than where the factory seem was just below it? Does it look right?

It looks like a good fix. They may have just wanted to remove as little amount of metal as they could and that way they didn't have to drill out all of the spot welds. This would have been a faster and easier fix. Do you have any pics of the car? How much are they asking for it?

They probably put the seam there because they had to cut off what was rusted below it. It looks like a fairly good job though. I wouldn't let that deter you from buying it unless you're looking for a 100% show car.

I would say they did an excellent job. I would just fill in the areas that weren't welded with seam sealer.

That could be the factory welds i seen some rough welds before on any cars.If they patched the floors they did a good job to keep it looking factory.

Looks like a good job. It appears they took their time and patience when welding and fitting the panels. Looks solid.
