Default 289 Ford Motor

Hi Guys-
Im interested in learning more about this motor. Im looking to buy this 1965 mustang which was obviously rebuilt. I cant get a lot of info out of the current owner, but he did send a photo.
Im wondering if this is the 2 or 4 barrel carb motor, or what kind of horsepower I should expect this motor to put out.

Thanks for your help.

That's a 4V setup, but it could be pushing anywhere from 100hp to 500. You need to talk to the owner about what he did to the motor when it was rebuilt. If shiny new parts, bright yellow wires, and cheapo hose sleeves were all it took to add power to an engine, we'd all have 1,000hp small blocks by now.

Star, how do you know it is a 4V from that picture? Heck how do you know it is a 289?

A) I've never seen a 2V intake with that much rise, and I think I see the trademark Edelbrock logo on the top front runner. Plus, the carb base looks to be 4V size.
2) The valve covers are sbf, which narrows it down to 260/289/302/351W
11) The intake isn't wide enough for a windsor, so that makes it a 260/289/302
IV) Who uses a 260 outside of a show car? This obviously isn't a show car. That leaves it at a 289/302.

BTW, that ballast resistor is mounted in a horrible location. I'd want to know why it's there at all (the stock wiring has a built-in resistor), and why the owner thought that was a good place for it.

my77stang,
Excuse me for the elementary question, but is that good? Would you prefer otherwise?
