it makes a hp or 2 more, and it runs smoother and reduces stress on the crankshaft

yeah the main benefit is not having the 1-5 part of the firing order as it stresses the front of the crank (or so i've heard). since the blocks are weak where the main caps screw into them its wise to not have two power strokes on the same journal 1 after the other. (in theory)
