Fastening Body Ornaments....
..things like the fender/hood name plates, logos, letters etc.
Do you drill the holes and use the clips and pins on the back of each piece or a good 3M double face tape? I've talked to 4 people about it and its split 2 for pins and 2 for tape. I know the 3M tape is great and holds them on forever.
I have SHELBY letters for the hood (already drilled), the trunk and Cobra ornaments for the vinyl covered B-Pillars. She hasn't decided yet if she wants anything on the fenders or not but is thinking the Cobra and 351W. I'm leaning against it.
I was thinking drilling the trunk and using the clips and pins for the letters and the 3M tape for the Cobra on the B-Pillars.

IMO dont drill the trunk unless you are keeping the car 100% original. Most companies have self stick emblems and lettering theses days which make life extremely easy!! This way you can experiment on emblems and take them off with no repercussions.
Im all for the tape!!! I just have a hard time drilling into expensive paint jobs. Most of the time you cant even tell its a self stick emblem

Emblems and letters are held in place by barrel nuts. If drilling new holes, the inside of the hole should be brushed with clear or paint to protect the metal, then s little silicone should be applied around the pin area so that the letter sits flush and tight.

I would have used adhesive to put mine back on after paint but the holes were, of course, already there on mine. I bought new new barrel clips and used those. What I did not like was that the barrel clips were so tight (they have to be) that my newly painted fender was flexing when I pushed the emblems on. I even had to tap them with a rubber mallet. I would go with the adhesive if you have no holes already.

Since the holes are drilled already in the front nose for the letters I'll use the barrel clips. Guess I'll try the 3M tape for the rear letters and the B-Pillar Cobras.
Thanks all
Edit.. btw the front nose and rear trunk lid are fiberglass so I wasn't worried about rust that much. The B-Pillars I really didn't want to drill though so I'll snap the pins and use the 3M tape there for sure. If they fall off its not that big a deal.
