Default dash clusters, you gotta lov em!

Hello fellow Americans! I'm new. My handle is overruled but I go by Rick. Never went to a forum that I wasn't in need of some professional advice. Bare with me please. I have a 1969 Mustang coupe. No matter what I do I can't get the dash cluster to work, nothing!. Not even a light. First I replaced the circut board with a new one. Then I was given another dash cluster and still nothing. Now I did change it over to a fuel injected engine with a computer but it did not work before that. Are these units suppose to possibly be grounded other than the pigtail? If anyone can help? Please do. Thanks! Rick

Welcome Overruled,

The 69 is one of my favorites because this is what I used to go to school in when I was a kid (sister's car).

I'll throw out some thoughts on your dash issue
*Is all of your wiring in good shape (main harness)?
*Since you updated your motor should you consider modern gauges with new wiring?
* If it is the gauge cluster itself you may consider having it professionally rebuilt.

Default dash clusters

Thanks for the imput, sorry I didn't get your name. I'm hoping to get this one working. The wiring seems to be okay. It doesn't look as if anyones been doing any splicing or taping or anything like that. I have power in the pigtail. There are 2 ingoing wires that don't appear to have any hot or ground connects but this could be for honest reasons. Rick

Smile Thanks

Thanks for the welcome to Ponyandajag, 07q335, and Mitzutuner, Hopefully someone that's had a similar problem in the past will read this. I haven't checked up to see how long these questions stay listed. But thanks again, you all have been real kind. Rick

If you have ZERO power to the cluster and power to the pigtail your problem is the Instrument Cluster Regulator.

Its about $60.00 new electronic one or around $40 for a new old style one. You local parts store my have one in stock. This is a very common problem.
