Default 351w starter & 164-tooth

OK so does the starter need to match up with the number of teeth on the flywheel.. ie do you need specific starter for a 164-tooth flywheel or can a starter for a 157-tooth work? At Summit as soon as I enter 164-tooth for a manual 351w I have 2 options.. 380.00 and 550.00. Like, give me a break here! I don't mind a bit of cash but seriously?!? I was thinking upwards to 250.00 tops here!

Coming back from the gym today I stopped in Advanced Auto and asked the manager. He said nothing in their systems displays any information on tooth count when selecting a starter. Don't know if this answers my question or if they simply have crappy software.

I'd like a mini with an adjustable mount if possible and would prefer Black but don't really care at this point. Most important is that it'll be reliable to start a well built 351w with 400+, work with a 164-tooth flywheel and a 4-steed manual. CR should be around 9.3:1.

What are all you 351w owners using?

I used the same starter that came from the 289/ 4-speed on my 351W 164 tooth 5-speed. I looked at a scattershield and the bellhousing had a cut-out for the right flywheel with 4 holes. From it working on my car, I assumed that they worked and it does.
