Default How do you remove a manual steering adapter from the pitman arm?

As you can see in the photo, there's nothing left holding this manual steering adapter to the pitman arm, yet it will not budge. I tried shoving a pickle fork in there but it does nothing (can't really get any leverage anyway).

What's the procedure for this?

Lots of penetrating oil and a hammer or one pound sledge. You don't want to hit the threaded shaft, rather you want to hit the the shoulder the shaft is going through preferably up as in the direction taht would free it from the rod. It will shock it loose. (tap, don't smack)

Twin BFH method. Take one hammer and hold it on the side of the hole in the pitman arm, then whack the other side real good with the other hammer. The idea is to deform the hole enough to pop the adaptor out of it. Should fall apart

How about a puller that puts pressure on the stud and pulls it away from the arm (like a pitman arm puller)

Hard to get the arms to lock on the pitman, which has round corners. Better off with the actual ball joint splitter.

Don't be surprised if it laughs at that tool. After all these years it is practically welded on. Heat it, smack it, lube it, and then use the tool otherwise it will likely cause massive tool failure! Also, flip the attaching nut upside down and screw it 3/4 way onto the stud so the tool presses on the nut, not the threads. It will protect the stud threads from the pressure of the tool.

Fake, those tools are pretty beefy. I used one to remove the idler on Jonward's car. Made a nice pop and scared the crap out of us, but it worked
