Default Door Alignment Issue

Hi,

It seems that my passenger door may be misaligned slightly.

It closes and appears mostly straight. But, when I raise the window, things get very tight. I've broken one door handle so far, and the new one seems to be getting weaker.

This weekend I moved the window slightly to the rear to see if I could reduce the pressure from the window to the belt weatherstrip. It appeared to help a little.

The window is new, but the old one had a similar issue.

The weatherstrip is new, so I've been operating under the assumption that things will get looser with time. It's been 4 months now, and it's still pretty tight.

So, now I'm wondering if I can adjust the door. How hard is that. Should I attempt it. I have some skill with tools, but have never even thought about putting wrench to door before, and it scares me a little.

I did the drivers door at the same time. New weatherstrip, new window, and it closes like a dream. A little tight to open, but in general very very nice.

Thanks,

John

You can adjust the door, but I would only do that if the body lines or gaps are off. I think you still need to adjust the window. Where is it tight at? They can be adjusted front to back, as well as in and out. There is also a stop adjustment to limit how high they can go. It sounds like you need to move the bottom of the tracks in, that will push the top of the window out when it is up.

Default Window adjustments

Well, I've messed with the window adjustment quite a bit.

That's how I got my driver's side all nice and perfect.

There's 3 screws holding the window to a plate that moves up and down on a track. Those screws adjust how far forward or aft the window is.

The angle of the window (how far in or out it is at the top) is adjusted by two other bolts on either side of the track pole that the plate slides up and down on. I've got those screws pushed as far as they will go to move the top of window as far out from the roof rail as is possible. The result is that's it's still a little in towards the front end of the car (causing the tightness and uphappiness, and actually sticks out too far and doesn't touch the weatherstrip in the back (which is a related issue that I don't know how to fix).

I can adjust the stops up and down to help with the final window angle.

What else can I adjust? It seems like the window needs to be a little in on the back end and a little out on the front. But, I haven't been able to adjust the front and back seperately. They are both out as far as they wil go no.

I'll try and take a photo tonight to illustrate the issue.

Thanks,

Default Photos of door.

I took some pics. The door looks ok I guess. But the window is too far in near the front, and sticks too far out in back. There's about 1/8 inch of opening between the front window and the rear quarter window weatherstrip.
