Default 302 Block, 351 heads

Another question for ya'all
I have a 302 block (1968 289 engine) that is going to go in my T code 68 coupe. I also have access to some 351 Windsor heads. Will they bolt directly to my 302 block? Am I just better off sticking with the 289 heads (which need valve seats etc)
Thanks

What year are the 351W heads? I believe '69 and '70 are really the only useful years for 351W heads, as heads built after that have monster combustion chambers which will drop your compression ratio far below where you'd want it. You'd lose more power from compression loss than you'd gain from improved flow.

What else have you done to the car? You do know you can't just drop a V8 in a T code car, right?

351 heads will bolt on a 302 but you will need different head bolts due to the fact that the 302 bolt holes are smaller than the 351. i got a set of head bolts that were made for the swap when i built my 347. they are 351 diameter but kneck down to the 302 bolt hole and thread pitch.

Or you can run spacers. If they're late model 351w heads, they're not worth it because they're identical to 302 heads.

Spacers, bushings or stepped washers... whatever you want to call them :-)

They are off a '69 351W block. My buddy has a '69 Sportsroof that is going to get Cleveland heads, so the Windsor heads are surplus. I can get them and a high rise manifold with a Holley 650 carb for replacing his torque boxes and floor pans (rightup my alley) I figured I would see if they would work on the 289/302 I am going to build for my car

The 69 Heads should be pretty good, arguably second best to aftermarket heads.

These should be 60cc combustion chambers 1.94 intake valves x 1.74 exhaust.

They will work with these bushings...

Agreed, go for it. Not going to be as good as aftermarket heads, but they're much, much better than your stock 289 heads.
