I hate intermittent problems!!
Just ranting - took car out for a cruise yesterday enjoying sunshine got behind a guy in a tractor and car just dies. Pulled over to the side of the rode and tried to start - turned over but would not fire. Checked it was getting gas to carb, did not smell or look like it flooded. Check wire to coil, solenoid, and distrib all look good and tight - did not have a voltmeter to test (will carry one in tool kit now along with some wire). Tried again nothing. Made a couple phone calls and waited. Thought I'd try again and then it fired right up. Took out a couple times after that - no problems.
Now when I take it out got this in the back of my mind. Guess I'll have to wait till it craps out for good. Arghh - the joys of owning a classic. Maybe I'll change the filter and pretend that's what it was.

Check the negative battery cable. They often are loose, particularly if you have been doing any work on the car. Typically, that is the one you remove before doing any work.
Also, keep an extra coil in your onboard tool kit/spares.

Good idea on coil - will add that to my box of stuff. Pretty soon I will be hauling a trailer with a motor in it. :-) I have been doing a lot of work and have had neg cable off a bunch of times but car turned over - just would not fire.
