Default Fuel gauge

I saw a thread on here about gauges and it reminded me of a question. I put a new tank and sending unit in. It will only read 1/2 a tank and the tank is full. It did the same on the 65 I used to have. How do I fix this so it will read full??

Thanks, Jeff

Could be several things.

The float arm is not vertical, if you installed it sideways it wont make a full swing.

The guage is not getting full 5volts.

The wire between the gage and sender is frayed/cracked
