Default 1968 mustang rear reflector position

Hey guys, I have a '68 GT fastback that I posted pics of in the member's rides section.
https://mustangforums.com/forum/memb...-fastback.html
It's missing its rear reflectors. I have a set of late '68 reflectors and I just need the measurements to put them in the right place. Does anyone have these? Or could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Nice car, but I think it looks better without the reflectors.

I'd leave them off too since your quarter panels dont have the recess for them.

Measuring from the back of the quarter the back hole is 2 3/8th inches and the front hole is 8 inches. See the out of focus pictures. The back hole is 12 inches down from the top of the quarter panel measured with the tape parallel to the back line of the quarter. These measurements are taken from my buddies 68 sitting in my back yard. The quarter and the holes are original.

I do agree that it looks better without the reflectors though. Also, I love your car. It looks great but the F O R D on the hood is not original for a 68. That only came on 67's.

thanks for your help guys! About the hood, wow, I really never noticed and it was staring me in the face. I like the way it looks with "FORD" written on the hood anyway. I was convinced to go ahead with the reflectors, but now I'm not so sure either. I read somewhere that if you remove the reflectors, its illegal. So I thought putting them back on would add some authenticity and protect me from angry cops looking for something to pin on me.

In my experience cops are the least likely to know the first thing about cars. Especially federally mandated safety laws from the 60's. I would say make you decision based on looks and personal preference. Like the hood letters, If you like them keep them. On a car that loooks as nice as yours and is fairly original I would not get too wild and crazy but I would say leaving the quarter reflectors off is not out of line.

Yeah I doubt you'd get a ticket for not having reflectors. I didn't put the ones back on my coupe and I drove it around for 3 years and never got stopped.

do you guys think it's worth anything in terms of adding safety?

I guess if you are backing out of a driveway or something it is easier for a car coming down the road to see you.

Yes.. they are there for added safety. If you spend any amount of time driving the car then I'd recommend them being installed. We're adding them to our 67 daily driver. Not really sure why people are against them myself.
