Gear Vendors Overdrive
Hey Guys,
I've been slowly getting everything together for my '69 so that it will be fully finished. The one thing that I want on the car is overdrive and, looking at my options it is more cost effective to go with a Gear Vendors unit than it would be to swap in a t-56.
My question in all of this is: Will there be a problem using this unit as it extends the tail of the transmission by about 5"? I'm not sure how this will affect the driveline angle.
Thanks,
Roger

What about a T5 or TKO conversion?
Driveline angle isn't a huge deal. Offroad guys run huge driveline angles all day. As long as the input (engine) and output (pinion) are within about 1.5* of eachother, you should be fine.

A gear vendors is not cheaper price one and you have to make your tranny mount and maybe massage the trans tunnel and shorten the driveshaft. My friend has one on his diesel ram he burned it up towing. They told him he had to put the unit in neutral when going down hill with a trailer or it would mess up the unit like that.Starfury the offroader use a special driveshaft with like cv joints to get the angle right. You can get a used t56 from a f body or corvette cheap have it rebuild to run on a ford then you need the cross member its not really that high.

I found one (Gear Vendors) on ebay for $1700. The only reason why I was thinking it would be cheaper is because it would need to handle over 600 ft/lbs of torque and on top of that my car would need the clutch pedals and a new bellhousing, flywheel and, clutch. Maybe I can piece something together with a t-56 for cheaper. Will need to look longer I guess.
