Anywhere with solid metal-metal contact. Try to bolt it up to something iron(directly too the block). If you go through aluminum(if you have any, heads, intake, bellhousing etc) then you're running electric current through differing metals, and you can get galvanic corrosion(the metals might react and one of them corrodes).

On mine I actually ran a wire that's bolted directly to the block on one end and the (-) batt terminal on the other, with an additional wire from the (-) batt terminal direct to the chassis. Jumping from the block to the chassis accomplishes pretty much the same thing, anything grounded to the chassis then goes through the block and from there through the (-) cable on the starter back to the batt.

well i know it's not the best place but i just hooked it up to a valve cover bolt. there's also an intake manifold bolt within reach, would that be better?

all cars i've seen have it on the rear passenger side intake manifold bolt. don't forget to torque the thing down again

i wouldnt touch the intake manifold bolts simply because they should be torqued to spec and if you pull one out you are risking causing a vacuum leak.

there is (or should be) a little bolt at the rear of the block specifically for the ground. it threads right into the block, kinda hard to miss it

Yeah, typically there's a threaded hole on the block itself for grounding purposes.

Actually I think the hole for the engine side is on the back of the head. I would not use an exhaust manifold bolt because of the heat.

Correct, it bolts from the firewall to the passenger side head. You have a couple of options either using the tapped hole near the manifold or us the same bolt as the transmission fill tube.

I would think one of the starter mounting bolts would be a good ground as well.
